Castle Welcomes Newest Member Location in Atlantic Canada

Mississauga, ON - Castle Building Centres Group Ltd.

Castle is pleased to announce their newest member is located in the Atlantic Canada region of Labrador.

B W Powell is located in Charlottetown, Labrador, a town said to be founded by none-other than Benjamin Powell himself in the early 1940’s. Benjamin Powell, known to most as “Trapper Ben”, and founder of B W Powell in 1946, has a rich and colorful history and was essentially the architect of this small Atlantic community. The business started out as one of the first sawmills in Labrador producing up to a million board feet of lumber in a single year with very limited resources.

B W Powell expanded over the years and has evolved into a full supply general store providing many other necessities to the community. The new Castle location serves a vital function in Charlottetown as it is not only the lumber, building materials and hardware source but also supplies residents with fuel and serves as the local Canada Post office.

Ben’s son Irving Powell took over ownership of the business in 1992 along with his sister Marie. The decision to become part of the Castle group was prompted by the need to grow the business by having more buying power and becoming more profitable.
