Castle Announces New Location in BC
Castle announced today that a new member will open their doors as a Castle Building Centres location in Gabriola, British Columbia. Island Home & Garden is returning to Castle after leaving the group several years ago for two separate attempts with competing banners.
Entrepreneurs Nick and Robin Hock founded the business almost a decade ago and built a stellar reputation serving the island community with their home improvement needs. When the opportunity presented itself, they took a chance with a competing banner, offering too-good-to-be-true promises that never came to fruition.
They quickly realized they were on a route that they did not want to follow as an independent business owner, and that this route also came with unrelenting and recurring banner fees. It became clear that they needed to return to a buying group with a business model designed for the truly independent retailer. That’s when they made the move back to Castle.

“Leaving Castle for another banner had an adverse impact and as they say, “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side”. After trying yet another banner, we came to realize that Castle is the only choice for the truly independent. We are excited that Castle is welcoming us back and look forward to our future success." The team at Island Home & Garden is excited for this new and familiar reality, and the support they will receive from the Castle team as they transition back. The duo also has a second location in the works in Cumberland, BC, which they hope to open in the Fall and later expand into a large hardware-centric shopping centre in the coming years.

“The unfortunate experience that Nick and Robin sustained with our competition is truly a testament to the merits of Castle’s member-focused business model. We pride ourselves on working for our members and making their success our one-and-only priority. Castle is pleased to welcome back Island Home & Garden to the Castle family and look forward to their future success.” Ken Jenkins, Castle President & CEO
